so thought i'd follow up on my israeli problems. lol. today i went to the office where u get passports and they fixed everything for me, i have a paper that says i'm allowed to use my american passport when i leave on saturday and that i can renew my israeli passport at the embassy in new york. so yaaaay good stuff. about the army, i'm going to the office for that tomoro and will try to get out of having to do some time as a soldier. my cousins came home from the army this past weekend for shabbat and it was so strange to see them cuz they're only a year and 2 years older than me, 2 boys and one of them is like my best friend we spent hours talking and catching up. i havent seen them for 3 years!!! thats just unacceptable. anyway so he was wearing his army clothes and he's an intense soldier, guns and stuff, tanks, everything it was so scary seeing him hold a gun. it really scared me. i hope he doesnt get hurt and is careful cuz i know he's a crazy kid and loves trying everything. it was sooo good to see him i miss him sooo much. he loves it in the army. my other cousin is reeeeeeally smart so he does some kind of computer stuff there or something, anyway uses his genius to help out but he still has a uniform and stuff which is weird to see him wearing. anyway i love them soooo much and i hope they're ok, they have about 2 more years to be in the army and than hopefully they'll come visit me at college in new york. all i know is i dont really want to be in the army but if there is a draft in 2005 cuz that silly bill gets passed i will be on a plane to israel so quickly haha and in a second i'll be in the israeli army, at least i would be fighting for something i believe in....

i dont want to i'm saying i would rather fight for them than the us army. and actually being israeli its this weird feeling that every kid is raised with that its awesome and its such an honorable service and bla bla bla the majority of the people going into the israeli armed forces do it because they reeeeeally do want to and if i had to do it and i almost did have to but i got excused i would mind, i would do it with pride, i just wouldnt go volunteer myself into it

You didn't answer my question.
Why would you want to be in the israeli armed forces?
How could you be a part of IDF with pride?
How would you justify your existence if you were a member?

i really dont know how to explain it but i dont see why i shouldnt do it with pride. its one of the best armies in the world, my parents both did it when they grew up in israel my cousins are in it, and so are a lot of my friends. it cant be explained being in the israeli army is just something that people want to do because we are very proud of our country and we want to protect it and be a part of it as much as we can and i dunno i'm telling u it cant really be explained its an inner feeling that is passed on when someone creates a connection with the country. and why do i have "justify my existence if i were a member" what is that supposed to mean? and why are u asking these questions, can i ask u what problems u have with someone wanting to be in the israeli army?

Don't say you didn't ask;
In a statement of the 25th of May, 2004, Amnesty International stated;
"Sixteen-year-old Asma al-Mughayr and her 13-year-old brother Ahmad were shot dead within minutes of each other on the roof-terrace of their home in the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah on the morning of 18 May 2004. Each was killed by a single bullet in the head, Asma while taking clothes off the drying line and her brother Ahmad while feeding the pigeons.
All available information indicate that the bullets which killed the two children were fired from the top floor of a nearby house, the highest building in the area, which had been taken over by Israeli soldiers shortly before the two children where shot.
Amnesty International spoke with several foreign journalists who visited the al-Mughayrs' house and the nearby house which was being used by Israeli soldiers at the time and reviewed photos taken by them. In the nearby house the journalists found an empty Israeli army ammunition box, spent bullet cases and leftovers from Israeli army food rations next to the holes which Israeli soldiers had pierced in the walls of the house to use as sniper positions. The pictures taken by the journalists show that there was a clear view of the al-Mughayrs' roof-terrace, where the two children were killed.
Israeli army officials have alleged that the children may have been killed by an explosive device set by Palestinians. However, the photos taken by the journalists show bullet holes on the clothes hanging on the drying line, on the satellite dish and on the wall; they did not show any damage which could have been caused by an explosion or by shrapnel from an explosion.
According to the children's family only single gunshots were heard when the children were killed and no explosions were reported at the time. Also according to the family, Ahmad ran downstairs to call for help after his sister Asma was shot in the head; he was shot in the head as he re-emerged from the staircase onto the roof-terrace.

o dony know what to answer to that and i did read the articles and all of that but truthfully i would still be in the army and my cousins are in it members of my family have all been in it. i am actually in israel right now staying with my family and visiting and i have yet to see or hear of anything terrible happening. i dont know, again its unexplicable its a pride we are brought up with just as the palestinians have been brought up with their ideas and pride for their country and i think its hard for someone who is outside of this whole conflict to understand what is really going on. i'm not trying to not be sympathetic for the things that have happened but once again as someone who is looking from the inside many of the things the army does are terrible but many of them are more than justified. its not something that can be explained and its not something that be understood by someone who hasnt lived with it and seen it first hand. obviously this is something going on for an unimaginable amount of time, so both sides are wrong, but i still would be willing to defend my side if necessary.

But what you say only makes you one of the reasons why young people are still the sheep of the shepherds of war.
It sounds like you don't really understand why it is that you feel the way you do, yet you are quite willing to believe in it anyway. This is both unreasonable and dangerous, but your thinking also has far-reaching implications in regards to how culpable you are for the crimes the IDF commits on a day to day basis.
Perhaps one of the reasons you have not seen anything that seems 'wrong' to you is because of that dirty great big wall that keeps you and the Palestinians separated. Admittedly, I don't know where in Israel you are, and while it is true that there hasn't been a suicide bombing for over 2 months - i dare you to walk to the other side of the wall and see the truth for yourself.
Israel is a small nation, so don't kid yourself that the suffering couldn't be around the corner from you. If you keep thinking what you're thinking, I fear it may reach your very doorstep.
I don't feel any discernable hatred towards you - but I think you are being unreasonable, ignorant, and are unfairly drawing conclusions from what your eyes tell you, perhaps because of what your mind wills them to see. Should you force them truly open, perhaps then you might understand the world a little more.
Practically speaking, perhaps you should get in contact with the International Solidarity Movement if you are looking for answers.
Please.

i know what ur saying dont get me wrong, i understand everything ur telling me and sure everything is right. but i am not ignorant and in fact i have seen first hand all the damage that has been done once again my cousins are in the army as well as my boyfriend they have stories, trust me they do, but i'm telling u its something that cannot be understood by people who are outside of this whole conflict in general i am not ignorant i hate it when people call me that and my eyes are open i am very well aware of what is happening around me. i am defenitely not a "sheep" it has reached my doorstep i have been here in the times where we were not allowed to even go to the mall if we felt like it because it was too dangerous. it is not my mind willing to do this in act my mind is telling me that this is all wrong, it is my heart, my love for the country and my faith in its government and my faith in the end to all of this that pushes me to say i would do it but once again i think u arent noticing only if necessary. i would only be in the israeli army if i was going to be drafted to the american one and sent to iraq. i dont want to be in any army! but if i have to be in one i would rather be in the israeli one. either way i'm losing. american army abuses people in iraq and the israeli army is thought to abuse people here. i dont need any answers for things and i know whats going on is terrible but look, there really is not much to be done this is something that will eventually end and has been going on since waaaaaay before i was even born. i think it is unfair that u are trying to change my mind or something and acting as if i have no clue whats going on. i said in the update which u actually posted on, my cousins are in the army my friends are in the israeli army. my best friend is in it, right there with a gun and everything. u think i don't know whats going on? i think ur the one who might not fully be opening ur eyes. try to imagine what these people have grown up with around it. these kids who are sent into the army right after high school were born with this war going on. i think u should take a trip to israel one day and see how we live. maybe even visit an army base and see what really goes on instead of just what is reported on the news in canada. and i must tell u honestly and surprisingly that some of the things u just said to me really offended me and i feel u are not trying to put urself in my shoes at all therefore who is the one that is unreasonable,ignorant and unfairly drawing conclusions from what their eyes are telling them????

If anyone is following this discussion, perhaps they have been reminded of a quote from Sydney Myer;
"You cannot reason the prejudice out of a man. It was not reasoned into them. It cannot be reasoned out."
Given the reasoning of this person, perhaps there really is less hope for all of us than we'd like to think.
If both sides are wrong, where is the sense in defending your own? Because of Patriotism? Pride? False-hope? I don't understand. Where is the logic in that? You would defend something you think is wrong?

Boy You Ask Tough ?s
I honestly love to read your Words, one day you may be a world famous writer, iam not pulling your leg or tring to flatter you, yes your spelling is almost as bad as mine and some times your punctuation leaves a lot to be desired; take your last Update, for a few minutes I imagined almost that I was your aunt and it was me getting washed away by that wave, ask Udara he was probable only 7 miles from your aunt, watch your viewed 886 times metter at the bottom right over 100 hits since the other day, actually I have been trying to not enteract with you in any way even when I saw you on any of the discussion boards, but for some reason your SN was the first one I saw on the Members List and I for some reason even remembered your name opened your Profile opened your Gallary Submmisions reread Horrizon then I realized I had know you through my other TIG SN I then opened your updates page and soon I realized that I had been the last submistion to your Updates and then I felt really bad I read through your other Updates and realized you had been into it with rewaa, as Drbadar worned me a troubled child and over me to no telling what degree but it had caused you to start an UpDate Page; so in closing, though you feel that I am a creep and we both agree she is a manipulitize bitch, the World Needs Your Words.
Peace/Out Nugene
